December Devotional

God's Commitment

God has continually shown throughout the ages His commitment to humanity. In the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve disobeyed and sin entered into the world.

God declared the Protoevangelium (the coming of the Messiah) when He pronounced judgement on the serpent; “And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise His heel” Genesis 3:15. Indicating His intention to save man by providing the perfect Sacrifice for sin. God committed to Abraham, promising him that he would become the father of the faithful. That commitment continued through King David, through Israel’s Babylonian captivity to the birth of Jesus, the promised Messiah. God fulfilled His ultimate commitment to man at Calvary. “But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.  And since by His blood He did all this for us as sinners, how much more will He do for us now that He has declared us not guilty? Now He will save us from all of God’s wrath to come Romans 5:8-9 (TLB). God cured the penalty of sin by fulfilling the promise of salvation through His Son; and preserves us by the process of sanctification.

God’s unfailing love, mercy and grace proves His commitment to us every day. And since relationships are based on mutual commitment, how can we reciprocate that kind of commitment? Consider this. What better way to celebrate the birth of Christ this Christmas season than with a present? You! “…present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.  And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God “ (Romans 12:1-2). Recommit yourself to Him afresh today. Start each day with renewed determination to purposefully live a life that exhibits your commitment to Him. In light of everything He commits to you, is this really too much to ask?

Merry Christmas and Happy New Living!!!

This Month's Scripture Reading

Philippians 2:5-11

Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus,

who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God,

but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men.

And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,

10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,

11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The Bible is God’s redemptive revelation to man. Its primary focus is to reconcile fallen man back to Himself. There was one and only one way this could be done. Atonement had to be made for man’s sins!

The church covenant is a voluntary agreement by members of the Church whereby they promise to conduct their lives in such a way as to glorify God and promote the ongoing of His Church. Every member should study it carefully, refer to it often and seek to live by it. This clearly outlines the obligation of church membership.
