October Devotional

Casting Aside

Mark 10:46-50

I was just thinking ...a blind man recognized his need to come to Jesus, threw aside his garment, rose up and went to Jesus.

There are some things we need to cast aside in our Christian walk. Many of us wonder why we are not being blessed. Could it be that even now we have not come to Jesus? We are holding on to some things that are holding us back and weighing us down. Could it be that we heard the call of Jesus but have not come to Him? Or, perhaps we went but have not yielded. Saved but not COMMITTED.

This blind man named Bartimaeus sat by the wayside, heard that Jesus was passing by and cried out forcefully and frantically to Him. Even after being warned to shut up and be quiet, he cried out even more desperately "Jesus of Nazareth, have mercy on me!" Have you ever been warned to shut up and be quiet about Jesus? Was it in your home, on the job, in your societal organizations or even in the church? Have you adhered to the warning shut up and shut down your witnessing, your prayers, your praise? Are there some things you need to cast aside?

We must cast aside whatever is holding us down and keeping our praise back. Just as blind Bartimaeus who recognized the only thing that was holding him back was his garment. We should immediately cast our garments (whatever they are) and go running to Jesus. Jesus said to the blind man, "What will you have me to do for you?" He is yet asking that same question of us today. What a wonderful question for the Creator to ask the created "WHAT WILL YOU HAVE ME TO DO FOR YOU?" The Savior of the world is asking this of us. Just imagine that!

Here is a wonderful question for us to ask of the Lord, "What will YOU have me to do for YOU?" Umm... Just imagine that, if you can...

This Month's Scripture Reading

Isaiah 40:28-31

28 Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
31 But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

The Bible is God’s redemptive revelation to man. Its primary focus is to reconcile fallen man back to Himself. There was one and only one way this could be done. Atonement had to be made for man’s sins!

The church covenant is a voluntary agreement by members of the Church whereby they promise to conduct their lives in such a way as to glorify God and promote the ongoing of His Church. Every member should study it carefully, refer to it often and seek to live by it. This clearly outlines the obligation of church membership.

Romans 8:32
He even let his own Son suffer for us. God gave his Son for all of us. So now with Jesus, God will surely give us all things.
