Church Covenant

The church covenant is a voluntary agreement by members of the Church whereby they promise to conduct their lives in such a way as to glorify God and promote the ongoing of His Church. Every member should study it carefully, refer to it often and seek to live by it. This clearly outlines the obligation of church membership.

1. SALVATION AND BAPTISM

Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior; and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in The name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, we do now in the Presence of God, Angels and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into Covenant with one another, as one body in Christ.

 2. DUTIES TO THE CHURCH

We engage, therefore, by the aid of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian Love; to strive for the advancement of this church, in knowledge and holiness; to give it a place in our affections; prayers and services above every organization of human origin; to sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline and doctrines; to contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of a faithful and evangelical ministry among us, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel throughout the world. in case of difference of opinion in the church, we will strive to avoid a contentious spirit, and if we cannot unanimously agree, we will cheerfully recognize the right of the majority to govern.

3. DUTIES OF PERSONAL CHRISTIAN LIVING

We also engage to maintain family and secret devotions; to study diligently the word of God; to religiously educate our children; to seek the salvation of our kindred and acquaintances; to walk circumspectly in the world; to be kind and just to those in our employ, and faithful in the services we promise others, endeavoring in the purity of heart and good will toward all men to exemplify and commend our holy faith.

4. DUTIES TO FELLOW MEMBERS

We further engage to watch over, to pray for, to exhort and stir up each other unto every good word and work; to guard each others reputation, not needlessly exposing the infirmities of others, to participate in each joy, and with tender sympathy bear one another's burdens and sorrows; to cultivate Christian courtesy; to be slow to give or take offense, but always ready for reconciliation, being mindful of the rules of the Savior in the eighteen chapel of Matthew, to secure it without delay; and through life, amid evil report, and good report, to seek to live to the glory of God, who hath called us out of darkness into his marvelous light.

5. DUTIES OF CONTINUED COMMITMENT
When we remove from this place, we engage as soon as possible to unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's word.

BIBLICAL BASIS OF CHURCH COVENANT

1. Salvation and Baptism: Having been led, as we believe, by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior; and on the profession of our faith, having been baptized in the name of the Father, of the Son, and the Holy Ghost, we do now in the presence of God, angels and this assembly, most solemnly and joyfully enter into Covenant with one another, as one body in Christ. (John 1:12-13)

2. Duties to the Church: To walk together in Christian love (John 13:34-35); To strive for the advancement of the church and promote its prosperity and spirituality (Philippians 1:27); To sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrine (1 Corinthians 11:23-26); To contribute cheerfully and regularly (2 Corinthians 9:6-7); Toa avoid a contentious spirit (Galatians 5:25-26).

3. Duties in Personal Christian Living: To maintain family and secret devotions (1 Thessalonians 5:17-18); To study diligently the word of God (2 Timothy 2:15); To religiously educate our children (2 Timothy 3:14-15); To seek the salvation of the lost (Acts 1:8); To walk circumspectly in the world, to be kind and just to those in our employ, faithful in the services we promise others, endeavoring in purity of heart and goodwill toward all men to exemplify and commend our holy faith (Ephesians 5:15, Philippians 2:14-15, Jude 20-21).

4. Duties to Fellow Members: To watch over one another in love (1 Peter 1:22); To pray for one another (James 5:16); To exhort and stir up each other unto every good word and work (Hebrews 10:24); To guard each other's reputation, not needlessly exposing the infirmities of others, to participate in each joy, and with tender sympathy bear one another's burdens and sorrows (Galatians 6:1-2, 1 Corinthians 12:26); To cultivate Christian courtesy (1 Peter 3:8); To be slow to give or take offense, always ready for reconciliation, being mindful of the rules of the Savior in the eighteen chapter of Matthew, to secure it without delay (Matthew 18:15-35, Church Discipline and Forgiveness); and through life, amid evil report, and good report, to seek to live to the glory of God, who hath called us out of darkness into his marvelous light (1 Peter 2:9).

5. Duties of Continued Church Commitment: When we remove from this place, we engage as soon as possible to unite with some other church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God's word (Hebrews 10:25).
