Mission: We provide Recovery Supports for individuals, families and the community that facilitate healing, restores hope and changes lives.

IMANI BREAKTHROUGH RECOVERY PROJECT: Wednesdays 4PM - 6PM 

     The IMANI project is an evidenced and faith-based initiative developed by Drs. Chyrell Bellamy and Ayana Jordan of Yale University.  Dr. Rochelle Dunham, Director of MHSD facilitated the piloting of IMANI in New Orleans.  New Hope Lion Tamers Recovery Supports Ministry was invited in as a faith partner  to deliver this recovery model.  This project is a Partnership with the Participant, New Hope Lion Tamers, Yale University Imani Breakthrough Project and Metropolitan Human Services District (MHSD).  Recovery  from an addiction is not a journey to be walked alone. 

     MANI is a faith-based harm reduction program designed to help one look at 8 dimensions of life affected by addictions (physical, emotional, social, spiritual, occupational, financial,

environmental and intellectual wellness) This is a community driven, faith-based harm reduction program designed to be spiritually, culturally and trauma- informed  to assist individuals in their recovery from opioids and other drugs/alcohol.  It consists of 22 weeks of classes and wellness coaching to help participants achieve goals they set.


CIRCLE OF HEALING AND HOPE SUPPORT GROUP: 2nd Saturday of Month 10AM - 11:30AM

     This is a grief support group for anyone dealing with death or loss of any kind.  The purpose of this group  is to provide an emotionally safe environment where those grieving loss can express their grief freely, without judgement and  where support, encouragement, and comfort can be found. We focus on helping the grieving move through the pain of loss to a place of hope, healing and restoration. 


LION TAMERS RECOVERY SUPPORT GROUP: Wednesday 5:30PM - 6:30PM

     Bible based recovery support group that provide a safe place to share and work through barriers to healing and restoration.  We provide support along the way to encourage, challenge, comfort, assist in your struggle to recovery.


AHA EMPOWERED TO END OPIOD MISUSE: By Request

     NH Lion Tamers Ministry was  invited to partner with the American Heart Association (AHA)  Empowered to End Opioid and Stimulants Misuse Movement.  The AHA, together with New Hope and  5 other churches and communities across the nation, developed a curriculum to expand the substance use disorders (SUD) knowledge and skills of Black and Hispanic individuals & families to address this issue.  Spring 2024, NH Lion Tamers will be available to provide community trainings for 1 of  3  or all AHA curriculum modules to :

1) Empower individuals, families and communities to identify SUD and be prepared to address an overdose emergency (hands on CPR and Narcan) 

2) Learn how to meaningfully engage in conversations about drug use

with family or friends. 

3) Learn how to reach out to youth peers who may be struggling. Call New Hope at  504-523-5935 if interested in any of these trainings.
