About Our Pastor

Rev. Jamaal Weathersby is a devoted servant of God whose ministry is rooted in fostering spiritual growth, building community, and advancing God’s Kingdom. A lifelong member of New Hope Baptist Church, he was raised, baptized, and nurtured in his faith within the very congregation he now leads.

Rev. Weathersby answered his call to ministry as a teenager in 1997. Following his licensure and ordination, he served faithfully as Youth Pastor and later as Executive Assistant to the late Rev. John C. Raphael, Jr. at New Hope. In 2012, he was elected Pastor of the Historic True Vine Baptist Church in Westwego, Louisiana, where he served for nearly two years. In 2013, he was called back to New Hope and was installed as Pastor.

Under his leadership, New Hope has continued to grow as a beacon of hope, love, and faith, supporting individuals, strengthening families, and leading efforts to bring about transformation across Central City and beyond. With a heart for bridging the gap between the Church and the community, Rev. Weathersby is committed to meeting both spiritual and practical needs, ensuring his ministry reaches people from all socioeconomic backgrounds.

His leadership is evident in impactful initiatives such as peace walks, community fairs, and drives that provide food, clothing, and school supplies to those in need. He also spearheads programs that uplift the community through faith-based outreach and support, exemplifying his dedication to holistic ministry.

Rev. Weathersby earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Religious Studies from Loyola University New Orleans and is currently pursuing graduate theological studies at the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Beyond the pulpit, his influence extends across the nation. He serves on various local and national boards, leveraging his platform to inspire and uplift communities. Through partnerships with nonprofits and faith-based organizations, he has expanded his ministry beyond the walls of New Hope, offering holistic support to individuals and families. His preaching and teaching ministry has taken him across the United States, where he has delivered powerful sermons, lectures, and workshops at conferences, conventions, retreats, and revivals.

With a profound love for the Word of God, Rev. Weathersby inspires others to live lives of purpose and faith, rooted in timeless biblical truths.

He draws strength and joy from his family. His wife, Latasha Weathersby, and their two children, Kiley Kristian and Blaise Taylor, are his greatest blessings and a constant source of inspiration. Together, they embody a shared commitment to faith, family, and service, fueling his devotion to ministry and his mission to serve God and others.
